Fire  Alarm Inspector/Technician

Location: Las Cruces, NM

Step-Level: L1 – L4

Pay Range: $8.50 to $20.00 (Commensurate with certification and experience)

Qualifies for Paid Training and Certification: Yes

Qualifies for relocation: negotiable

 

Position Summary: 

Provide onsite inspections and service to ensure customer’s fire safety equipment is NFPA code compliant; recommend service and parts as needed by performing the primary duties below.

 

The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, possess good oral and written communication skills, is punctual, and is willing to train on the job, as well as study afterhours towards Fire Industry certifications.  This is a career position with great opportunity for increased responsibility and advancement. 

 

Primary Duties:  

  1. Set up and conduct scheduled inspection visits to inspect fire safety equipment at customer premises.

  2. Inspect fire extinguishing and fire protection systems to ensure equipment is operable and in NFPA code compliance.

  3. Prepare timely and accurate reports of inspections.

  4. Prepare reports and quotes listing repairs and replacements as needed.

  5. Perform minor repairs that can be accomplished during inspection visit.

  6. Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                     

  1. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty above satisfactorily. The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and experience required.

 

Qualifications - Travel

  1. Travel - Must be able to travel up to 60% of the time.

 

Qualifications - Tests, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  1. Possess or obtain valid New Mexico Driver’s License prior to start of employment.

  2. Pass a drug and alcohol screening

  3. Pass a criminal background check

  4. Be able to legally work in the United States

  5. Possess or be willing to obtain JES-3, and JES-14 certifications within 2 years of employment.

  6. Possess or be willing to obtain JES-12 certification within 4 years of employment.

 

Qualifications – Minimum Education and/or Experience (Levels 1-4)   

                                        

1) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;

    6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;

    1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

3) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;

    2+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. JES-3 certificate holder.

 

4) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;

     3+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. JES-3 and JES-14                    certificate holder.

 

Language & Mathematical Skills                                             

  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  2. Basic math skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; calculation of percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  3. PC and smartphone literate, MS office basic skills.

Position Summary:  Leads crew on jobsite.  Reads drawings and bills of materials.  Lays out, assembles, installs, repairs and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for fire sprinkler systems. The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, possess good oral and written communication skills, and is punctual.  This is a career position with great opportunity for increased responsibility and advancement. 

 

Primary Duties:  

  1. Manage civilian and military jobsites to include inventory and control of material, manage access and work schedule with owners and superintendents, and supervise other workers assigned to the job.

  2. Using engineered drawings & job specifications, selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to plans and specifications.

  3. Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness.

  4. Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.

  5. Cuts, threads, and grooves pipe.

  6. Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic.

  7. Connects pipes, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.

  8. Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers.

  9. Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment such as pumps and cylinders.

  10. Installs and maintains sprinkler systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.

  11. Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks.

  12. Operates system valves to verify correct operation.

  13. Maintains a secure project site for equipment, tools and materials.

  14. Oversees worker safety.

  15. Assists with project quotations, participates in jobsite walks.

  16. Reviews crew timesheets for correctness

  17. Keeps project on-schedule and on-budget.

  18. Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                          

  1. This position will supervise pipe fitters and other support crew on the jobsite.

  6. Possess a NM MS12J Journeyman certificate.
